UEFA Champions League: Buffon sidelined for eight weeks

International absence
Buffon fell badly on his right shoulder while rushing out at Kakà's feet during the second half of the Trofeo Berlusconi at the San Siro. He has withdrawn from his country's friendly in the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday and will miss the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Nedved worry
Buffon's understudy Antonio Chimenti will deputise starting with the Italian Super Cup encounter against FC Internazionale Milano next weekend. The Serie A season then gets under way on 27 August.
