UEFA Intertoto Cup: Barbarez gets two-match ban
/noticias.info/ Hamburger SV striker Sergej Barbarez has been handed a two-match ban following his sending-off in the first leg of the UEFA Intertoto Cup final against Valencia CF.
Late dismissal
The 33-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovnian international was shown his second yellow card in the dying stages of the game which Hamburg won 1-0 at the AOL Arena on 9 August. However, referee Stuart Dougal referred, in his post-match report, to Barbarez's conduct after his dismissal, including that he "had to be physically restrained by two of his team-mates".
Out of return
Following today's decision by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body, Barbarez will miss the return leg against Valencia on 23 August as well as the club's first fixture in the UEFA Cup first round should they make it through. The player, who scored Hamburg's second-half winner, has until midnight on 18 August to lodge an appeal. notas_de_prensa_archivo
