UEFA Intertoto Cup: Leroy handed suspension

/noticias.info/ RC Lens's Jerôme Leroy has been banned for three matches for hitting an opponent during the French club's UEFA Intertoto Cup final first leg.

Violent conduct
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body handed the midfield player a three-game suspension after he was dismissed in the 83rd minute of the 1-1 draw at CFR Cluj on 9 August for striking an opponent in the face in an off-the-ball incident.

Three-match ban
The 30-year-old is now banned for the second leg of the final in France and will also miss the following two fixtures that his team play in UEFA competition. Thus, if Lens manage to overcome their Romanian opposition, he will sit out both legs of any UEFA Cup first-round tie.

Mitigating circumstances
Leroy claimed he had been provoked by his opponent, but the Control and Disciplinary Board insisted his actions were unacceptable. The Ligue 1 side have until midnight on 18 August to appeal against the decision. notas_de_prensa_archivo
