FIFA World Cup: England lose Wright-Phillips

/noticias.info/ With six FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and a host of friendlies taking place on Wednesday, uefa.com rounds up the latest news from the teams in action.

England have been deprived of Shaun Wright-Phillips for the friendly in Denmark. The Chelsea FC winger has suffered a swollen knee and will be unable to add to his four caps. Wright-Phillips becomes England's second withdrawal, following Andrew Johnson on Sunday.

Arsenal FC midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg and Juventus FC striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been ruled out of Sweden's friendly against the Czech Republic in Gothenburg on Wednesday because of calf injuries. "It's a shame. I really would have liked to participate against the Czech Republic but I can't," Ljungberg told the national federation's website on Tuesday. Ibrahimovic suffered his injury during Juventus's pre-season training match against AC Milan.

After Custódio and Cristiano Ronaldo dropped out of the Azores friendly against Egypt, Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has called up midfield duo Luís Boa Morte and João Alves. The latter has not played for his country at senior level, the 24-year-old having risen to prominence after a fine 2004/05 season with SC Braga.

Italy coach Marcello Lippi has lost attacking duo Mauro Camoranesi and Francesco Totti for the friendly in the Republic of Ireland, having already seen Gianluigi Buffon ruled out earlier this week. The goalkeeper's Juventus FC team-mate Camoranesi has a knee injury while AS Roma captain Totti has fallen ill. No replacements have been drafted in.

Belgium coach Aimé Anthuenis also has a key attacking absentee after Thomas Buffel was sidelined for the friendly against Greece in Brussels. The Rangers FC striker suffered a knee injury in the UEFA Champions League qualifier against Anorthosis Famagusta FC last week and has been unable to shake it off.

Opponents Greece have personnel problems of their own, with Panathinaikos FC defender Ioannis Goumas and AEK Athens FC midfielder Konstantinos Katsouranis both ruled out. Otto Rehhagel has responded by handing Katsouranis's club-mate, central defender Georgios Alexopoulos, his first call-up.

Belarus's preparations for their encounter with Lithuania have taken another knock after Aleksandr Kulchiy joined fellow midfielder Maksim Romashchenko on the sidelines. The FC Tom Tomsk veteran has broken a rib and is out for three weeks. Anatoli Baidachny has summoned FC Dinamo Moskva's Oleg Shkabara to deputise. notas_de_prensa_archivo
