UEFA Champions League: Demichelis dealt double blow
/noticias.info/ A day after missing out on his international debut for Argentina, FC Bayern München midfielder Martin Demichelis learned he will sit out the start of the UEFA Champions League season as he requires a month to overcome an ankle injury.
In plaster
The 24-year-old tore ligaments in his left ankle in Argentina's final training session before last night's 2-1 defeat of Hungary in Budapest, a match that would have seen Demichelis wear the famous blue-and-white striped shirt for the first time. Instead, he faces eight days with his ankle in plaster and at least another three weeks recuperating.
Defensive shortage
Demichelis, who has emerged as a key figure for Bayern, playing a part in their opening two Bundesliga victories, will be unavailable when the Champions League group stage gets under way on 13/14 September. With Samuel Kuffour, Thomas Linke and Robert Kovac all having left Bayern this summer, Demichelis's injury leaves coach Felix Magath short of cover if Lucio or Valérien Ismaël pick up an injury. notas_de_prensa_archivo
