EVERTON: BALL NAMED PRESIDENT
/noticias.info/ Everton hero Alan Ball has today been named the honorary president of the brand new members club for Evertonians – Evertonia.
The scheme was launched earlier this summer and has already attracted a massive amount of interest from Blues fans both home and abroad.
Already there are over 4,000 members and the club felt that to really take the scheme forward it needed a figurehead of legendary proportions.
World Cup winner Ball fits the bill perfectly having established himself a true Goodison great during his spell at the club in the 1960s and early 70s on top of being one of the greatest players ever to pull on the royal Blue jersey.
Arriving on Merseyside shortly after England’s success at Wembley in 1966 for a club record of £110,000, he played a major role in Everton’s upturn in league fortunes and was pivotal in the championship success of 1970.
A player regarded for wanting to do things his own way, he quickly forged a place in the hearts of Evertonians forever with his extraordinary workrate and as one third of one of the best ever midfields in football alongside Howard Kendall and Colin Harvey.
Ball, who scored 78 goals in 249 appearances before being controversially sold to Arsenal in 1971, told evertonfc.com: “It is thrilling to be named the honorary president.
“It is a great to see that Evertonians – both young and old - still remember me and I always get a marvellous reception whenever I go back to Goodison Park.
“I had an absolutely great time when playing for Everton, it was the time of my life and once you are a Blue, you always stay that way.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
