DEPORTES : Valencia face long Edu absence

/noticias.info/ UEFA Intertoto Cup finalists Valencia CF have suffered a setback ahead of the Primera División season, which begins next week, after new signing Edu tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee which is likely to sideline him for the majority of the campaign.

Training accident
The 27-year-old midfielder will undergo surgery, which club medical staff claim will probably rule him out for six months after the Brazilian international twisted his knee during training today, and a scan at the Quirón clinic in Valencia detected the ligament tear and damage to the meniscus. Edu only joined Quique Sánchez Flores's side in the summer, after completing a free transfer move from Arsenal FC.

Intertoto bow
He had already made his competitive debut for his new club, as Valencia reached the final of the Intertoto Cup, where they currently trail Hamburger SV 1-0 after the first leg. The return leg will take place at the Mestalla on Tuesday.
