MOTOROLA: Growing Arizona Town First to Implement Motorola’s New Digital Trunking Solution

ASTRO®25 LE Brings Benefits of Big City Systems to Smaller, Growing Municipalities

/noticias.info/ The Town of Marana (located northwest of Tucson, AZ), is one of Arizona’s fastest growing areas. Thirty years ago, Marana was a small town covering 10 square miles with about 1,500 residents. Today, it has expanded more than 10-fold covering approximately 120 square miles with 20,000 residents. To keep up with that growth, the town is installing a new, state-of-the-art, mission critical public safety communications system.

Marana is the first customer to implement Motorola’s ASTRO® 25 LE IP two-way radio communication system. This new technology is the latest solution in Motorola’s trunking portfolio and is Project 25 compliant.

”This is a fast growing community and this system underscores our commitment to build the infrastructure required to support the equally growing needs of our citizens for public safety,” said Anthony Casella, Marana IT director. ”We’ve gone from an almost 20-year-old analog radio system with one site to a three-site digital system that now covers 99 percent of the town limits. Additionally, the system works with our town’s wireless wide-area network. With the Motorola team, our IT department, and select subcontractors, we accomplished a successful and on-time installation.”

The new communications system utilizes simulcast technology with three transmitter sites to provide seamless communications coverage throughout the town’s large geographic area.

Town officials specifically selected a Project 25 standards-based system to maximize the interoperability potential with the planned regional communications system in Pima County.

The ASTRO® 25 LE system is specifically designed for customers whose radio communication system must provide mission critical operations in smaller geographical areas. It requires fewer radio sites, as little as one, or a single simulcast site with up to 15 sites. The system operates in the 800MHz, 700MHz, UHF and VHF bands and provides a stepping stone for system operators who may need to move to a larger Project 25 system configurations and capabilities in the future.
