Octopus Interface 2005
Conference on Combating economic crime 28 – 30 September 2005, Lisbon, Portugal
/noticias.info/
Organised by the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Justice of Portugal
The acceleration of economic globalisation since 1980s multiplied the opportunities for economic crime in Europe. Following the multi-billion EURO financial fraud and misconduct schemes of Enron, WorldCom and Tyco International, the Parmalat scandal at the end of 2003 showed that economic crime of this magnitude is also possible in Europe. In view of increasing concern of the cost and damage of economic crime for European societies, the Council of Europe – in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Portugal – will organise an Octopus Interface Conference on “Combating Economic Crime”. It will be held in Lisbon from 28-30 September 2005.
The aims of the conference are:
1. To take stock of new developments and trends with regard to economic crime
2. To elaborate proposals for further action on economic crime to be taken by the Council of Europe.
Participants should be professionally involved in issues related to economic crime, and include representatives of Governments, international organisations, professional associations and the private sector. Registration forms should be completed and returned to the Council of Europe as soon as possible. notas_de_prensa_archivo
