Nortel PEC Solutions Holds Technology Exchange at Fair Lakes Campus
Employees, Customers Get First-Hand Look at Cutting-Edge Network Technology
/noticias.info/ FAIRFAX, Va. - More than 500 employees, customers and guests attended a three-day Technology Exchange hosted by Nortel* PEC* Solutions*, a Nortel [NYSE/TSX: NT] subsidiary focused on professional technology services and high-end e-Government solutions.
The event, held at the company's Fair Lakes campus August 3-5, 2005, focused on broadband IP networking technologies that can be used by the United States Federal Government to protect sensitive information, streamline networking functions and cut operating costs.
The company provided technology overviews on leading networking solutions for Voice over IP (VoIP) and circuit switching; optical and MPLS networking; SIP-based multimedia communications for video conferencing and other integrated communications and content delivery; local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and virtual private network (VPN) solutions for secure connectivity; and wireless LAN technologies for providing low-cost broadband wireless access.
Briefings on the company's advanced case management, courtroom automation, and biometric identity management solutions were also provided, rounding out the portfolio of high value government technology offerings on display.
Corresponding demonstrations of technologies were provided in Nortel's NetworkXpress, a mobile technology center that was on-site for the event. This 40-ton, 18-wheel truck is a fully-equipped demonstration center that travels around North America to provide a first-hand look at Nortel's latest networking solutions and applications. During 2004, NetworkXpress mobile showcase vehicles hosted 227 day visits, visited 175 cities, attracted 9,100 visitors and logged 74,600 miles.
"Nortel PEC Solutions is developing, innovative, secure, and very reliable networking solutions that can help government agencies better protect and manage critical information," said Chuck Saffell, chief executive officer, Nortel PEC Solutions. "Fueled by Nortel's end-to-end networking technologies, and coupled with a deep understanding of the clients' mission and domain, we are committed to meeting the demanding requirements of our government customers. Nortel's NetworkXpress demo center provides a great way to allow our customers and constituents to see what we have to offer and help us align our technology with their requirements."
Nortel PEC Solutions' community partner, Oakton High School, also organized a field trip to the event for students to experience the networking demonstrations. Students were accompanied by Oakton teacher, Steve Scholla, who was recently named Fairfax County Teacher of the Year. Scholla heads up Oakton's Robotics and Rocketry programs.
Nortel PEC Solutions began its partnership with Oakton High School in 2003 and is a proud sponsor of Oakton's highly acclaimed Robotics team. In 2005, the company increased financial support, enabling Oakton to purchase much-needed equipment for construction of its robot. Nortel PEC Solutions also teams with Oakton students on two annual food drives and the Patriot's Cup Race to benefit the ARC of Northern Virginia. Oakton students also participate in Nortel PEC Solutions company events, such as volunteering to do face painting at annual company picnics.
