Football Europe: TVMK on target for title

/noticias.info/ The latest round of the Estonian Meistriliiga kept the status quo at the top, as leaders FC TVMK Tallinn played out a goalless draw against second-placed FC Levadia Tallinn and an hour later their nearest rivals FC Flora and JK Trans Narva repeated the result.

Lead retained
Sunday's matches between the four high-fliers ensured TVMK retained a five-point lead over Levadia, while Flora are a further point adrift of the leaders with Trans a point behind them in fourth.

Levadia pressure
The first half of the TVMK-Levadia fixture was played at a high tempo with both teams creating chances. In the second half, TVMK dropped the pace and were under pressure from the title-holders, but were also able to hit back with quick counterattacks, mainly through in-form international right-winger Maksim Smirnov. However, Levadia had the best opportunities and nearly won it with a late effort from veteran striker Indrek Zelinski.

Record run
Nonetheless, TVMK remain on course for their first title with 12 games left. The club are eleven matches unbeaten and have kept clean sheets in eight of those outings. Just as significantly, TVMK ended Trans's own record run of 14 games without defeat, taking an important 2-0 away win on 14 August. TVMK should soon be rewriting their record books, being just four points, one victory and seven goals from achieving seasonal milestones in each of those categories.

New faces
Flora, who signed several players just before the transfer deadline of 31 July, gave a dream debut to Norwegian Alfred Berge. The 25-year-old forward scored an 89th-minute winner in Flora's 1-0 victory against FC Valga. During the last month, Flora have also handed debuts to three Under-19 internationals: Lauri Senješ, Henri Rüütli and Keijo Tomson. Rüütli is the son of Levadia coach Tarmo Rüütli.

Yevtushenko departs
JK Merkuur Tartu, much-fancied on the eve of the campaign, have been dropping down the table. They parted company with Russian coach Grigory Yevtushenko and no fewer than ten key players – six of whom joined Trans. Their first three fixtures after these changes brought three defeats with a goal difference of 0-17. Finally, JK Dünamo Tallinn are set for relegation, having gone 19 games without a win and suffered 15 straight defeats. The promoted club lie 14 points behind ninth-placed JK Tammeka Tartu. notas_de_prensa_archivo
