LIVERPOOL FC: REDS DRAW CHELSEA, ANDERLECHT AND BETIS
/noticias.info/ Holders Liverpool will play Chelsea, Anderlecht and Real Betis in the group phase of this season's Champions League.
The draw took place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco this afternoon and it placed the Reds in Group G.
It means re-run of last season's epic semi-final clash against the Londoners in which Liverpool ran out 1-0 aggregate winners, courtesy of Luis Garcia's controversial second leg goal.
Anderlecht, meanwhile, first visited Merseyside for a European Cup tie in 1964 - an occasion remembered for being the first time Liverpool wore their now famous all-Red strip.
Goals from Ian St John, Roger Hunt and Ron Yeats secured a 3-0 win back, while a solitary Hunt strike in the return completed a 4-0 aggregate success.
Our last meeting with this famous Belgian club was a pre-season friendly in August 1980.
Liverpool have never before met last season's Spanish Cup winners Real Betis in continental competition, although the two sides did meet once in a pre-season friendly. It was in August 1982, in Marbella, and the Reds ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Kenny Dalglish and David Hodgson.
No dates for the games have yet been finalised. notas_de_prensa_archivo
