Tottenham 0 Chelsea 2 minute detail

Tottenham 0 Chelsea 0

/noticias.info/ Premiership, 27th August at White Hart Lane, Tottenham.

Tottenham: (4-4-2) Robinson; Kelly, Dawson, Gardner, Stalteri; Tainio (Lennon), Carrick, Davids, Reid; Mido, Defoe.

Chelsea: (4-3-3) Cech; Ferreira, Gallas, Terry (c), Del Horno; Essien, Makelele, Lampard; J Cole (Wright-Phillips), Drogba (Crespo), Duff.

Referee: Rob Styles.

Crowd: 36, 077.

Environment: 3pm Saturday kick-off. Warm and bright with high cloud.

Kit: Tottenham — white and navy shirts, navy and white shorts, white socks; Chelsea — all royal blue.

First-half

Kick-off: Chelsea

4 Escape: Dawson heads wide from eight yards after Spurs pressure led to a corner.

8 Chance: A dangerously curling Lampard free kick fired in from wide on the left is deflected for a corner by Carrick with Essien and Del Horno lurking.

11 Save: John Terry heads a speculative cross out but it falls to Jermain Defoe, whose hooked left-footer is safely held by Petr Cech.

17 Chance: Chelsea's third well-positioned free kick slips wide, curled over the Spurs wall from 22 yards out by the busy Didier Drogba.

19 Booking: Essien trips Davis after a one-two had put the midfielder through. There is enough defensive cover to warrant no red card as last man, but only just. The Spurs free kick hits the breaking wall.

22 Abused: Lovely touch from Drogba as he slips past last man Gardner, who is shown the yellow for his desperate charge-down. Honours even.

24 Sent off!: Mido is immediately shown the red card for elbowing Del Horno, quite ridiculous behaviour by the Egyptian. Terry is booked in the aftermath.

27 Chance: Damien Duff’s corner is headed just wide by an unmarked Terry. Good chance. Spurs players and fans rattled.

38 GOAL!: Del Horno's well-directed header from Duffa's corner goes in off the post. He'd started the move that actually led to the corner in the first place with a clever arrowed pass. His first goal for Chelsea.

45 Chant: Chelsea fans in the Paxton are enjoying themselves: "Training session, at the Lane!"

Stoppage time: 2 min.

Half-time: Tottenham 0 Chelsea 1.

Second-half

Spurs substitutions Lennon for Tainio.

Kick-off: Tottenham

52 Treatment: Terry falls to the ground after an aerial challenge with Dawson that leads to a corner. Chelsea have started the second half brightly, but this doesn't look good. He's stretchered off, but returns after a minute or so.

56 Chance: Duffa's 22-yarder is just wide of Robinson's post. Chelsea squeezing the game, keeping possession, and then putting the ball in the danger area.

59 Chance: Ferreira sends Cole's excellent blind-side pass behind Spurs' defence fizzing across goal but Drogba can't quite connect.

61 Booked: Cole for a loose challenge on Reid.

59 Chance: Ferreira sends Cole's excellent blind-side pass behind Spurs' defence fizzing across goal but Drogba can't quite connect.

61 Booked: Cole for a loose challenge on Reid.

63 Chelsea sub: Cole makes way for Sean Wright-Phillips.

64 Booked: Reid for dissent after handling the ball.

66 Chelsea sub: Crespo on for the excellent Drogba.

67 Chance: Crespo's first touch is a flicked shot that Robinson just about stops with his foot.

71 GOAL!: It's 2-0. From Claude Makelele's great diagonal ball Wright-Phillips skins Kelly (for the second time in minutes) and crosses for Duffa to flick home awkwardly. Duffa opens his 2005-6 account.

74 Booked: Davids for clattering Lampard.

79 Tactics: Jol changes formation and goes for broke, moving Dawson up (as he did King last year in this game) and switching to three at he back.

80 Chance: Great save from Robinson denies Crespo again from eight yards out.

88 Chelsea sub: Huth for Duffa to counter Dawson.

Stoppage time: 2 mins.

Unused subs Tottenham: Subs: Cerny (g), Naybet, Keane, Brown. Chelsea: Cudicini (gk), Gudjohnsen.

Shots on target: Tottenham 3 Chelsea 6

Corners: Tottenham 2 Chelsea 5

Fouls: Tottenham 15 Chelsea 10

Offside: Tottenham 0 Chelsea 7

Comment:

Make no mistake, once Mido had foolishly made it possible for Rob Styles to send him off, this game was over as a contest. Among the 31 league games Chelsea have now been unbeaten against Spurs, this must never the less rank as one of the most accomplished. No one had a bad game for Chelsea. Del Horno, who has taken no time to settle into the Premiership, and Drogba, were the pick of a tighter first half, the Spanish full-back grabbing his first goal in blue. The second half, in the face of Jol’s and his team’s apparent bewilderment at how to counter such a complete and suffocating opposition, simply went through the motions. Chelsea’s football flowed, chances came, and Duff’s goal sealed a delightful cameo from tricky Wright-Phillips. So subdued by the lesson was White Hart Lane that Chelsea’s cheeky following sang: “It’s like Highbury, at the Lane!” Top of the league, having more laughs. notas_de_prensa_archivo
