EVERTON: MOYES: NO EUROPE HANGOVER

/noticias.info/ David Moyes refused to blame Everton’s midweek trip to Villarreal for his side’s 0-1 defeat at Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

A single goal from former Blues striker Brian McBride ensured the London hoodoo continued for Moyes and his men despite the visitors being the better team for the vast majority of the 90 minutes.

But Moyes felt that Everton did not do enough with the ball in the attacking third of the pitch and that is what ultimately led to the loss.

He told evertonfc.com after the final whistle: “I thought we were always a threat, we just didn’t have enough in the final third. Nevertheless the players showed great attitude.

“There was certainly no hangover from the European game and from our point of view we have put the myth to bed that we can come back and play well after Europe.

“This our first time so all I can comment on is what I saw today. Our players did well and on another day I am sure we would have had three points.”

Having only won once from the opening five games of the season, Moyes obviously left London a disappointed man but he took some solace from the way his players made Fulham work for their win.

He added: “It was disappointing because we lost the game but not performance wise. We were happy with the performance again and to be fair played quite well.

“We were never under any real pressure, our play was very good and we were expecting a goal to come from it. It didn’t and that gave them an opportunity and they took it.

"I couldn’t really say the game got away from us and to be honest I thought we were more likely to score because of the possession we had but that proved to be the case.

“They have scored a good goal, though we felt we should have stopped it on the left-hand side. We kept them out all game and looked as though we were going to keep a clean sheet but it wasn’t to be.”

The manager, meanwhile, had very little to say on the late dismissal of Phil Neville apart from urging his player not to change the way he fights for the team.

He concluded: "Phil Neville is competitive and we want him to be that way." notas_de_prensa_archivo
