Motorola Announces $750,000 Leadership Donation to Chicago Police Memorial Foundation

Donation to Support Construction of Gold Star Families Memorial and Park, Endowment for Suicide Prevention and Foundation Education Programs

/noticias.info/ Chicago, Il., – 26 August 2005 – The Motorola Foundation, a charitable giving arm funded by Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), today announced a $750,000 leadership donation and multi-year commitment to support the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and the construction of the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park to be located next to Soldier Field in Chicago.

The announcement was made during a rally at Daley Plaza to commence the “Salute to Chicago’s Finest,” a series of events held August 26-28 and intended to raise awareness and funds for the effort to build a permanent memorial to Chicago Police Officers killed in the line of duty.

“The Foundation has been working toward the development of the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park near Solider Field to honor our fallen police officers. The memorial will celebrate and commemorate the courageous lives of these heroes,” said Mayor Richard M. Daley, Honorary Chairperson, Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. “This is a very important project and I want to thank the Motorola Foundation for their generous donation that will help make this memorial a reality.”

Motorola’s donation is currently the largest corporate sponsorship for the Chicago Police Memorial building project. Motorola was founded in Chicago in 1928 and is the world leader in providing Mission Critical wireless communication solutions to public safety agencies. Motorola has been a proud partner and supporter of the Chicago Police Department for more than 70 years.

“On behalf of the Chicago Police Department, I applaud the fine work of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and Motorola’s exemplary corporate citizenship,” said Philip J. Cline, Superintendent, Chicago Police Department. “We hope that other Chicagoland companies and corporate leaders follow the example set by Motorola, Exelon and SBC who have pledged to support the Chicago Police Memorial Project.”

In addition to the campaign to build the memorial, the Foundation has many programs in development to serve police officers and their families. To assist in that endeavor, Motorola also announced a Chicago Police Memorial Foundation endowment which includes a Motorola Family Scholarship to aid family members of both fallen and active officers, funding to support Foundation programs involving suicide prevention and education initiatives encouraging math, science and technology training.

Motorola will promote the Memorial Foundation and associated programs through a variety of marketing, fund-raising and promotional activities.

“On behalf of the thousands of Motorola employees in the Chicago area, we salute our local heroes and pay tribute to the officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in serving the citizens of this great city,” said Greg Brown, President of Motorola’s Government and Enterprise Mobility Solutions business. “Motorola is privileged to be a part of the memorial foundation project; we believe this memorial is a valuable endeavor for the City of Chicago and we will continue to work with the community to honor and support the men and women that protect our citizens every day.”
