A330-200 delivery key to KLM's future

/noticias.info/ KLM Royal Dutch Airline celebrated rejoining the Airbus long-haul Family by taking delivery of their first A330-200 on August 26 at a special ceremony held in Toulouse, France.

This is the first time since 1995 that the Dutch flag carrier has bought an Airbus airliner. This A330-200 is one of eight Airbus long-range aircraft to be delivered to KLM, of which six have been purchased directly from Airbus.

Following a short delivery ceremony presided over by Airbus' President and Chief Executive Officer Dr Gustav Humbert and Leo Van Wijk, KLM's Chief Executive, the A330-200 flew directly to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, ready to begin operations at the beginning of September.

Mr Van Wijk congratulated Airbus and KLM's hard work in reaching this milestone. He said that the delivery of the A330-200 would be a very important improvement to the airline's operations and would fit perfectly into its fleet modernisation programme.

The A330-200 will be deployed on non-stop mid-sized routes to North America, Africa and the Middle East. The aircraft is configured to seat 251 passengers in a very comfortable two-class configuration and is powered by General Electric CF6-80E1 engines.

While also praising the A330-200's excellent cargo capability, Mr Van Wijk said: "We feel that our customers will really appreciate this great aircraft. It's good to re-establish a relationship with Airbus which I'm quite sure will be long and lasting. It's good to be back in Toulouse."

This delivery underlines the popularity of the A330 Family of which more than 540 aircraft have been sold in the past decade. In excess of 360 aircraft have been delivered with a healthy backlog of more than 190. notas_de_prensa_archivo
