Air Travel Fuel Surcharge Increases Due to Rising World Oil Prices
/noticias.info/ George Town, Grand Cayman, B.W.I. - August 22, 2005 - Cayman Airways has announced that due to current conditions, last week major airlines began implementing increases to the fuel surcharge. With the price of crude oil having risen to over $65 a barrel, airlines continue to experience significant increases in the cost of jet fuel.
Cayman Airways has filed to match this industry increase in the fuel surcharge, which amounts to US$10 on one-way tickets and US$20 on round-trip tickets. As of Friday, August 19, this “Q” surcharge increase was filed by virtually all US carriers as well as Air Jamaica, and covers all flights to/from the US. Cayman Airways has not yet implemented any increase on the Kingston, Havana or inter-island routes, although those markets are being reviewed in light of the dramatic increases in fuel costs.
“Cayman Airways has resisted increasing its prices for as long as possible in an effort to support the tourism industry and the local economy. However, this recent jump in fuel prices to record high levels, has made this fare adjustment necessary, as there appears to be no prospect for a near term reduction in fuel costs.” said Richard Blake, Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
He continued, “Cayman Airways remains committed to providing its customers with great value and service in airline travel. However, with the commercial realities that we are facing now and have been for quite some time, we can no longer absorb this increase.”
Tickets paid for, and issued before August 19, will not be subject to this increase; however, all tickets purchased on, or after, August 19 – regardless of the date the reservation was made – are subject to this increase.
