FOOTBALL EUROPE: Spurs splash out on Jenas and Lee
/noticias.info/ Tottenham Hotspur FC have agreed deals to sign Newcastle United FC midfielder Jermaine Jenas for €11.5m and the €2m-rated PSV Eindhoven left-back Lee Young-Pyo, while allowing Erik Edman to depart for French side Stade Rennais FC.
Midfield options
Following the summer arrivals of Scott Parker and Emre Belözoglu, Newcastle are not short of central midfield options and were prepared to cash in on a player who had reportedly become disillusioned with life at St James' Park. The 22-year-old Jenas joined Newcastle in 2001 in a €7.2m transfer from Nottingham Forest FC, his hometown club, and has gone on to win 13 caps for England.
Excellent season
Like his countryman Ji-Sung Park, who moved to Manchester United FC for €6m in June, the 28-year-old Lee excelled last season as PSV won the Dutch double and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Capped more than 75 times by the Korean Republic, Lee - who has a degree in governmental issues and politics - made five appearances at the 2002 FIFA World Cup before following coach Guus Hiddink to the Philips Stadion in January 2003.
Edman off
One player on his way out of Tottenham is the man Lee was expected to challenge for the left-back slot, Erik Edman. The Swedish international, 26, has signed a three-year contract with Rennes, according to the Ligue 1 team. notas_de_prensa_archivo
