FOOTBALL EUROPE: Christanval handed Fulham chance

/noticias.info/ Fulham FC have signed former French international Philippe Christanval on a free transfer and agreed a new contract with Portugal winger Luís Boa Morte.

'Nice atmosphere'
Christanval, 27, has penned a three-year deal committing him to the English Premiership club until 2008. The centre-back had trained with Arsenal FC earlier this summer but was delighted to join Fulham. He said: "There is a nice atmosphere around the training ground and I am looking forward to being a part of Fulham's future."

French champion
A Ligue 1 champion with AS Monaco FC in 1999/00, Christanval's career took a downturn after his transfer to FC Barcelona in June 2001. He looked to get back on track by signing for Olympique de Marseille in July 2003, but could not establish himself at the Stade Vélodrome and was released in the close season.

Captain staying
Fulham captain Boa Morte gave the Londoners a further boost by accepting a new five-year contract, ending speculation about a move to Newcastle United FC. Newcastle had pursued the player all summer, but Fulham manager Chris Coleman was pleased to secure the 28-year-old.
