FOOTBALL EUROPE: Del Piero targets Champions League

According to Juventus FC's website, the Bianconeri captain will miss the Serie A game at Empoli FC on Sunday but may recover in time for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League Group A opener at Club Brugge KV.
Danish Superliga club Viborg FF have signed a a three-year contract with former FC Nordsjælland midfielder David Rasmussen. The 28-year-old is joining the Central Jutland club from 2. Bundesliga side FC Hansa Rostock with immediate effect. "We have been searching the player market thoroughly for some time now and I must say that David Rasmussen has really been worth waiting for," said Viborg director Morten Jensen.
Staying in the Superliga, newcomers SønderjyskE have also made use of the Danish transfer window remaining open until 11 September by signing a one-year contract with Brazilian left-sided midfielder Leandro De Deus Santos - brother of BV Borussia Dortmund star Dede - from CA Mineiro in the player's homeland.
The Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) has suspended former Willem II player Christophe Lepoint for six months. Speaking to uefa.com, the KNVB said: "We can only confirm that the player is suspended for six months, and that the suspension started on 12 August." Belgian youth international striker Lepoint, 21, had joined Willem II in January, having left TSV 1860 München in Germany but left the club in the summer. Meanwhile, Willem II forward Anouar Hadouir has been suspended for three domestic matches following his dismissal in a reserve-team fixture against FC Eindhoven on Monday, but remains eligible for the UEFA Cup.
Aberdeen FC defender Michael Hart has been ruled out of action for another two months with a groin injury. The 25-year-old, who has not played this season, broke down during a comeback attempt and now needs surgery. "He is going in for an operation, which means he will be out for six to eight weeks," said manager Jimmy Calderwood.
