UEFA CUP: Valur impress behind Djurgården/Älvsjö

/noticias.info/ Djurgården/Älvsjö were joined by Valur Reykjavík in the UEFA Women's Cup quarter-finals after second qualifying round Group B2 concluded in Eskilstuna.

Svensson winner
Last season's runners-up, Swedish champions and group hosts Djurgården/Älvsjö found Iceland's Valur a tough proposition on Matchday 1. Sara Johansson's 25th-minute goal was cancelled out by Valur's Laufey Olafsdottir eleven minutes later, and Djurgården/Älvsjö only secured victory when Victoria Svensson struck deep into added time.

Eight-goal thriller
In the other opening game, ZFK Mašinac-Classic Niš of Serbia and Montenegro raced into a 2-0 lead on 34 minutes against Alma KTZH, but the Kazakhstan representatives pulled one back just before the break, and Volha Aniskoutsava scored on 52 and 54 minutes to put them 3-2 ahead. Olga Mishabskaya's own goal drew Niš level, but Natalia Emelianova and Marya Valova then hit the target to give Alma a 5-3 win.

Djurgården/Älvsjo secure
Niš then saw their campaign end with a 3-0 defeat by Valur. Rakel Logadottir put the Icelandic side ahead just after the break and Margret Lara Vidarsdottir then scored twice. The result meant victory against Alma would seal qualification and first place for Djurgården/Älvsjö, and they duly secured an identical win to Valur, Sara Thunebro's 15th-minute goal added to in the final moments by Svensson and Johansson.

Valur progress
Djurgården/Älvsjö celebrated their progress with an emphatic 7-0 triumph against Niš, and now meet AC Sparta Praha next month over two legs. But the real interest was now in the other match, and tournament debutants Valur - who needed only a draw - won comfortably against Alma to book their quarter-final place as runners-up. However, they face the toughest of tasks, as they are paired with holders 1. FFC Turbline Potsdam.
