LIVERPOOL FC: CARRA: WE NEED TO BEAT UNITED
/noticias.info/ Jamie Carragher says Liverpool will send out a message to the rest of the Premiership if they can beat Manchester United this weekend.
The Reds have collected five points from their first three league games of the season and are yet to concede a goal.
Carragher describes it as a 'decent' start, but insists the commendable away draws at Middlesbrough and Tottenham now need to be built on with victories at Anfield.
He said: "We beat Sunderland at home and I think a draw was a fair result at Tottenham. We played well at Middlesbrough and should have won the game, so we're probably two points short of where we deserve to be at the moment.
"I would say we've made a decent start to this season. We've got two tough away games out of the way without losing and now we can look forward to the Man United game.
"It's important to get the three points because we want to move up the table. We're a couple of games behind most teams and so we're not as high in the league as we'd like to be, but if we win on Sunday then we can start moving forward.
"If we beat Man United then not only will it be a great psychological boost for us, but I also think it will send out a message to the rest of the Premiership that we're going to be in there fighting for this title.
"Of course we know it's going to be difficult because United are a great side with a lot of excellent players but we're certainly confident ahead of the game."
United's main threat will undoubtedly come from their twin strike force of Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney, both of whom have been among the goals already this season.
"They're two top class players and so we know we'll be in for a hard game," added Carragher.
"I know Wayne well from the England set-up and it's hard enough to keep an eye on him in training. As for Van Nistelrooy, his goal scoring record is second to none, especially in the Champions League.
"It's going to be a hard game but I know it's the one all our fans look forward to at the start of the season and so they'll be up for it. Hopefully we can get the three points and turn a decent start to the seasoninto a good one."
