MILAN - This is what coach Carlo Ancelotti had to say in the afternoon press conference:

It’s a team that we know, they have played in a certain way for a number of years and gained excellent results, they have improved over time and have gained an identity for good football. We have also always played well at Genoa, so that’s something to consider.
What about a heavy pitch?
We’re not worried about that, we’re improving, the team is up for it and motivated, concentrated, so I am very confident.
Did you expect Maldini to play three games in a week?
Maldini is monitored day by day, he has the opportunity to play tomorrow as well, he’s fine now and he’s still our point of reference.
Will you look at the weather before the deciding on the line-up?
At Ascoli we tried to control the situation as best we could, we could have asked the referee to wait so we could judge the state of the pitch. It was our right.
Are you worried about Juventus’ results?
It was going to happen that they would win the first two games but we have to improve our form so Juventus don’t worry us, that’s our objective.
What about your problems at set-pieces?
We can’t be too anxious about that. We have to make it difficult for them to score, we cannot make this a negative thing, we have to be more aggressive and put them under pressure.
Do you think it’s time to rotate the team?
It’s not a law, we have players at the same level in our squad, it’s right to alternate but without losing the team identity. We still haven’t found the rhythm to play the game at a high tempo, we’re not on top form yet, we pay too much attention to our opponents. We have to be aggressive and do more with the ball.
Is it not a paradox having aggressive players such as Ambro and Gattuso?
The general problem, for all players, against Fenerbahce we paid more attention to our opponents so we could make better use of our build-up but in the future we’ll have to increase the rhythm.
Is Stam better?
He’s fine, we can play.
Is Kakà inspired after renewing his contract?
I would think so, it’s a positive thing for him, club and fans. It’s the same for me, it’s a lift to have him until 2010. He is one of the best players in the world, he is essential, fast, moreover he has matured a lot, he has also become important at covering back.
Could he become Milan’s new captain?
There are plenty of players with the charisma and personality to take Paolo’s armband but not at the moment.
Is it right what’s happened to Del Piero?
I would prefer not to answer that.
What’s your judgement on Real Madrid?
I believe it’s a problen of balance. They need players with the characteristics to balance the side but the club have a certain line when it comes to buying players.
Who’s feeling better between Vieri and Gilardino?
Both are fine, but Gilardino will play.
Can Milan not set out their play better with Vieri?
To enforce our game we have to play in the opposition half and against Fenerbahce we didn’t do that. He moved well especially through the centre.
What will be the line-up tomorrow?
Pirlo will play. Ambro has an annoying ankle problem so we’ll see, Serginho didn’t train this morning due to a slight strain.
What’s your judgement on Vogel?
He’s fitting in, he was criticised on his San Siro debut, he works well, he’s friendly and precise in what he does and with time we will succeed and be more sure.
What about Gattuso?
He’s relaxed and calm, he fine and we’ll see an improved Rino at Genoa.
