Air Malta Appointed CHOGM 2005 Official Airline

/noticias.info/ Air Malta has been appointed as the Official Airline for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) being held in Malta next month. As Official Airline, Air Malta will be at the forefront in supporting the large number of delegations and members of the international media who will be travelling to Malta as from the middle of November.

Air Malta Chairman, Lawrence Zammit called on Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at the Auberge de Castille to present him with a memento of the Air Malta CHOGM Official Airline branding that has been placed on board each of the National Airline’s aircraft. In a few words following the presentation, Dr Gonzi said that CHOGM 2005 was one of the most high profile events that Malta had ever hosted and which will firmly place Malta in the spotlight of the international media’s attention. “I can confirm that over 250 international media representatives have already confirmed their presence during CHOGM week, and we are getting a significant amount of requests for media interventions related to CHOGM and the political issues which we hope to discuss. The CHOGM Task Force is also making great efforts to bring over to Malta authoritative political, business and travel journalists. In addition, an external marketing programme will commence in the coming weeks whereby TV stations in the Commonwealth Member States will be provided with a Malta CHOGM promotional spot to broadcast.”

The Prime Minister said that the theme chosen by the Maltese government for the Summit, Networking the Commonwealth for Development, is also an appropriate slogan for Air Malta as throughout the years of operating a flight network of destinations, Air Malta had greatly contributed to the island’s own development.

Air Malta’s Chairman Lawrence Zammit expressed his satisfaction at the airline’s commitment and support towards the successful organisation of CHOGM 2005. He said that “All Air Malta aircraft are carrying the CHOGM message on the airline’s flight network of 50 destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East as well as our aircraft operating out of our base in the United Kingdom”.

Lawrence Zammit added “For over thirty years Air Malta has always proudly flown the eight pointed cross and carried the symbol of Malta’s identity far afield. In the process the airline has supported Malta’s tourism industry to enable it to grow to the levels it has reached today, flying to our islands millions of tourists. The airline has always been at the forefront of promoting our islands and we are committed to continue doing so for the benefit of the Maltese community.”

Recognising the positive effect on the islands’ standing in successfully organising such a high profile meeting in Malta and that will certainly have a positive parallel effect on other areas such as tourism and the economy, Air Malta is gearing up to be actively involved in marketing and promoting CHOGM. Apart from the Official Airline branding on the aircraft fuselage, for the duration of the CHOGM meetings, special in-flight announcements will greet participants, delegates and members of the media who will be attending and reporting on the meetings. Shorts videos about CHOGM, Malta and Air Malta will be screened on the airline’s in-flight entertainment system and all aircraft will also be dressed up with specially produced headrest covers. CHOGM 2005 will also be promoted through Air Malta’s web site. notas_de_prensa_archivo
