FIBA: CHI - Dimayor season goes down to the wire
/noticias.info/ OSORNO (Dimayor League) - The Chilean Dimayor league looks set for an exciting climax as, with only two rounds left, seven teams remain tied in third spot, with only six making it into the play-offs.
With Osorno and Ancud already qualified, Puente Alto, Universidad Catolica, Bost on College, Universidad de Concepcion, Universidad Autonoma del Sur, Llanquihue and Valdivia, who have all recorded 10 wins and the same number of defeats, will fight it out over the next two matches.
Universidad Autonoma del Sur claimed a key 73-71 home victory over second-placed Ancud, with Anthony Johnson scoring 27 points and Brandon Mason contributing 20.
Despite beating Universidad de Concepcion 89-86 away on Saturday, Puente Alto then lost at home to Espanol, who in turn moved off the bottom of the table with the win.
Universidad de Concepcion had a weekend to forget as they lost twice at home and missed the chance to automatically qualify for the next stage.
After losing to Puente Alto on Saturday, they were also beaten by Boston College 92-90 with Larry Florence scoring 27 points for the winners.
Universidad Catolica started the weekend with a great away win over leaders Osorno 83-73, in which Michael Manciel was man-of-the-match after notching up 32 points.
But then on Sunday they lost to Llanquihue, who profited from this 91-82 victory to be one of the teams who will be part of the exciting run-in next weekend.
Osorno meanwhile got over that defeat to Catolica and demonstrated why they are the best team in the league by beating Liceo Mixto 107-83 on Sunday, Rodney Gidney netting 33 points.
Despite being one of the seven previously mentioned teams, Valdivia, who were table leaders at one stage, will no longer be favourites after their recent run of form.
This streak continued at the weekend as on Saturday they lost 82-67 and one day later, were beaten 96-74 by Castro, for whom Bobby Madison collected 25 points.
The final two decisive rounds will be played next weekend.
In case of any teams still being level, their position will be defined by using the results of the matches between those teams. notas_de_prensa_archivo
