FIBA: IWBF receives three bids for 2010
/noticias.info/ MONTREAL (IWBF) - Ron Coppenrath, President of Competitions for the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) confirmed that bids were received from Canada, France and Great Britain.
Canada has proposed Vancouver as their host city; France is proposing Paris for men and Villeneuve d'Ascq – for women; Great Britain has proposed Birmingham.
The site reviews will take place over the next two weeks. Matt Wells will join Coppenrath in France and Canada and Coppenrath will complete the review by visiting Birmingham.
The Executive Council will receive a report at their meeting October 31 & 31 in Rome. The three bidding cities will be invited to make a final presentation at that time. The announcement of the site for the 2010 World Championships will be made at the end of the Executive Council meeting.
GERMAN WOMEN WIN EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to the German women's team on their victory at the European Championship in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France last month. Germany and France are the first women's team to qualify for the 2006 World Championship.
IWBF COACHING CLINIC IN BIRMINGHAM
IWBF would like to thank everyone involved with the very successful Coaching Clinic held during the World Championships for Junior Men in Birmingham.
Head clinicians Dave Titmuss and Mike Frogley were joined by 30 participants to the clinic some from as far away as Uruguay and South Africa. IWBF is committed to hosting further coaching clinics in cooperation with the Zones and the host of major tournaments in the future. Discussions are under way to host a similar clinic in Amsterdam at the time of the World Championships.
