CHELSEA FC: Carlton Cole on target again
/noticias.info/ Carlton Cole opened the scoring for England Under 21s tonight, Tuesday, and made another goal with a clever back flick. Three other Chelsea players were in international action.
Cole went close with two chances in two minutes against Poland Under 21s before latching on to a through ball and beating the goalkeeper in an awesome sprint in order to slip it past him. He also headed against the bar. He had several other chances, and although he maybe should have scored more his overall play was outstanding.
He made England’s third goal with a wonderful piece of control and back-heel for Newcastle’s Stephen Taylor to score. England won 4-1. Carlton was substituted a few minutes before the end.
Following on from his substitute appearance last Friday, Lassana Diarra played the full 90 minutes of France Under 21s’ 2-0 home win over Cyprus. He was given his chance in the centre of a midfield four. It was his second start at this level.
France as group winners go into Thursday’s European Under 21 Championship play-off draw knowing they will face a second-placed side, possibly England.
Steven Watt played the first-half of Scotland Under 21s’ 3-0 defeat in Slovenia. It was 1-0 at the interval.
Jimmy Smith managed just the first half-hour of England Under 19s’ match in Poland against Poland B. His replacement opened the scoring but England finished up losing 2-1. notas_de_prensa_archivo
