IOC: Turin 2006: 45% increase in doping tests

/noticias.info/ The IOC today announced its strategy for anti-doping controls during the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. As part of the IOC's zero tolerance approach to doping, the number of tests will increase by 45% in Turin, compared to Salt Lake City.

1,200 tests during the Games
There will be 1,200 tests conducted during the entire period of the Games, from the opening of the Olympic Village end of January until the Closing Ceremony on 26 February. The tests will be performed on all substances present on the 2006 List of Prohibited Substances issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

IOC-TOROC-WADA Task Force
A task force involving the IOC, WADA and the Turin Organising Committee, TOROC, has been set up. TOROC will implement tests within Olympic venues, whereas WADA, under the authority of the IOC, will implement tests everywhere outside the Olympic venues. The IOC will be exclusively responsible for results management.

Medical services
Extensive medical services during the Games in Turin will be spread over three polyclinics, in Turin, Sestrieres and Bardonecchia, as well as over all the venues.

New temporary WADA-accredited laboratory
A new temporary laboratory with all the latest technologies will be located in the premises of the hospital in Orbassano. This laboratory will be WADA-accredited during the period of the Games. Specialists from many different countries will be working in the laboratory at Games time.
