FIBA: PUR - Vecchio gets Grises job
/noticias.info/ HUMACAO (Baloncesto Superior Nacional) - Puerto Rican basketball side Grises de Humacao have appointed Argentinian coach Guillermo Vecchio as their new manager for the 2006 season of the domestic Baloncesto Superior Nacional league.
The former head-coach of the Argentinian and Mexican national teams, who has been working as an agent in Latin America for NBA outfit Detroit Pistons, will take over to help Grises improve their results from the 2005 campaign, in which they finished eighth out of nine participants.
This will be the fourth Puerto Rican team that Vecchio has managed after coaching Maratonistas de Coamo in 1985/86 and Indios de Mayaguez in 2000.
Eugenio Vives, General Manager of Grises, revealed that the contract with Vecchio is for one year, with an option to extend it for another season at the end of the deal.
Vecchio will also be part of the project to develop young players in the region.
"We want children and teenagers to practice the sport and manage the techniques of the game. We want to develop this project for three years, to coincide with building the new stadium,"Vives commented.
"We want to have a solid team in the near future,"he added. notas_de_prensa_archivo
