FIBA: RUS - Move over Dynamo St Petersburg, there's another team in town!

/noticias.info/ ST PETERSBURG (Superleague) - After threatening to go unbeaten in all competitions for much of last season, European giants and defending Russian champions CSKA Moscow suffered a rare defeat on Wednesday in the Superleague at Spartak St Petersburg who won for the first time in four games.

St Petersburg drew a lot of attention in 2004-05 when city rivals Dynamo, under coach David Blatt, marched through the FIBA Europe League unbeaten and lifted that title, and now the city of Peter The Great has another team making headlines after Spartak's 84-75 triumph over CSKA.

CSKA, who are now coached by Italian Ettore Messina, led 36-31 at half-time but the third and fourth quarters belonged to coach Algirdas Brazys and his Spartak players.

Spartak were nine of 14 from three-point range in the game, and they outrebounded the giants from Moscow 28-25.

Antonio Grant had 22 points to lead Spartak on eight of 11 shooting and he also pulled down eight rebounds.

Australian international David Andersen, one of the top players in Russia, finished with a game-high 28.

In other games on Wednesday, Ural-Great of Perm lost at home to UNICS Kazan, 84-72, and Dynamo Moscow won 84-59 at Sibirtelekom-Lokomotiv Novosibirsk. notas_de_prensa_archivo
