FIBA: URU - Trouville, Atenas finish level

/noticias.info/ MONTEVIDEO (LUB) - Trouville won both their weekend games in the last round of the first phase of Uruguay's LUB league to finish level on top with Atenas.

Alejandro Gonzalez's side, who will be one of 10 teams disputing the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, needed a five-minute period of overtime to see off Aguada.

The scores were tied at 105-105 at the end of regular time but Trouville pulled away in added time to eventually win 117-108.

They then went on to beat Defensor Sporting 83-73, with Sebastian Shaw leading the scoring for the winners with 17 points

Atenas, meanwhile, lost 93-91 after overtime to Paysandu, with the two sides having finished level at 78-78 at the end of normal time.

Paysandu's Ignacio Borges was the top scorer in the match with 32 points while Morris Hall contributed 26 points for Atenas.

The co-leaders did manage to grab a win this weekend, however, when they defeated Defensor 89-71, Hall again impressing with a 23-point haul.

The two sides both finished with 11-4 records at the summit.

Elsewhere, Mauro Tornaria's 32 points for Olimpia were in vain as they lost 97-94 after overtime to Salto.

Olimpia were involved in another tense game this weekend. They needed three periods of overtime to beat Bigua on Saturday after the sides finished tied at 90-90 at the end of regular time.

Anastasia lost 106-82 away to Cordon, despite a man-of-the-match performance by Martin Volf, who poured in 22 points.

The only other result this week saw Sayago lose 76-75 to Bigua.

Two matches - Malvin against Aguada and Union Atletica against Welcome - were postponed because of leaks in the stadiums.

The results of these games are crucial in deciphering who will qualify for the next phase of the competition.

Meanwhile, Mario Andriolo has quit as coach of Soriano, who are fighting to avoid relegation.

Federico Camina has been appointed as his successor. notas_de_prensa_archivo
