PGA TOUR: Diary: Donald hopes strong finsh will carryover

/noticias.info/ Editor’s note: Luke Donald, who is defending England’s title at the World Golf Championships-Algarve World Cup in Portugal with David Howell, is writing a diary for PGATOUR.com this week. This is his fourth installment.

ALGARVE, Portugal -- Obviously we struggled a little bit today but that was hopefully our bad round out of the way. We birdied the last three holes, though, and we still have a share of the lead. It's not very easy, Foursomes. It's tough to get in a flow. I think it was a little chillier out there today. The wind was blowing a little bit harder and it's hard to get into a rhythm. That’s what happened the first 11 holes or so. Some shots we thought were good didn't turn out to be good, and I struggled on the greens. I missed four putts from probably within 6 feet on the front nine.

We had a chance to rally if we played well today -- open up a bit of a lead. All in all, though, the fact that even though we didn't play our best and we're still right there is encouraging. We could have played wonderfully today and opened up a four or five shot lead, but that wasn't to be. We definitely saved ourselves at the end. Obviously we were struggling a bit, and to finish with three birdies is going to leave a great taste in our mouths for tomorrow and hopefully we'll carry on the way we finished off today.

They say the weather tomorrow isn’t going to be very good. They’ve moved the tee times up early and they’re sending us off two tees. We don’t know quite what to expect. I think for the good players, though, it's encouraging in a way because it separates the field. You have to play good golf. And it's going to be tough. I think the best thing to do is to stay away from looking at leaderboards because anything can happen in these next two days, but you just grit it out.

You have to try not to be too negative. You need to be positive and think that most of the other teams are going to be moaning that the weather is bad when you might enjoy playing in it. So it's just more of a mental approach where you say: this is perfect, I love playing in the wind, I love playing in the rain, and I'm just going to make us get more in the lead. notas_de_prensa_archivo
