FIBA: ESP - Trio remain unbeaten
/noticias.info/ BARCELONA (Euroleague) - Panathinaikos and Real Madrid remained undefeated in the Euroleague after claiming their fourth successive victories on Thursday.
Panathinaikos' success will come as no surprise as they retained many of the players who reached last year's Final Four in Moscow. However, Efes Pilsen of Istanbul and Real Madrid are surprise packages.
Efes knocked off defending champions Maccabi Tel Aviv, 90-88, with Marko Popovic scoring 21 points and Henry Domercant 19 in the victory. Maceo Baston had a game-high 29 in defeat for Maccabi, who suffered their second setback in Group B.
Maccabi are playing this season without Sarunas Jasikevicius, their inspirational point guard who decided to play in the NBA this season with the Indiana Pacers.
In Group C, Panathinaikos, who have many of the Greek players that won the EuroBasket this summer, thrashed Partizan Belgrade 81-62.
Despite losing many of their veteran players, Real Madrid have got off to a fast start and Ulker Istanbul became their fourth victim.
Marko Tomas, the Croatian who had some bright moments for his country at the EuroBasket, led the Spanish side with 18 points.
In Group A, Benetton Treviso went into their game at Zalgiris Kaunas undefeated but lost 88-70.
Last season's French champions Strasbourg got their first win of the Euroleague campaign, beating winless Union Olimpija 90-82 in Group A.
Barcelona bounced back from defeats to Lietuvos Rytas and Menorca in Spain to win 65-60 at Prokom Trefl, Shammon Williams pouring in 24 points.
Unicaja Malaga were convincing winners at home over Montepaschi Siena in Group C, 82-60.
Wednesday's action saw Climamio Bologna win 94-64 over GHP Bamberg to improve to 2-2, while Tau Ceramica prevailed for a third time with a 77-62 victory over AEK Athens.
In Group B, last season's ULEB Cup champions Lietuvos Rytas won 78-67 over Olympiacos, and Cibona Zagreb handed Armani Jeans Milano their third defeat, 67-60.
Pau-Orthez lost at home to CSKA Moscow 69-55, in the lone Group C game on Wednesday. notas_de_prensa_archivo
