SOUTHERN AFRICA TOUR: Horne on song at Volvo China Open
/noticias.info/ Keith Horne fired a sizzling four-under-par 68 for a total of two-under-par 142 to rocket to a share of 25th following the second round of the lucrative Volvo China Open at the Shenzen Golf Course.
Horne was in top form, carding three birdies and recording an eagle on the par-5 12th, the perfect answer to his only drop of the day at the preceding hole.
Eight-time Sunshine Tour winner Hendrik Buhrmann matched Horne’s performance with a 68 of his own, a stunning recovery from his effort in the first round to ascend to a share of 55th on even-par 144.
Buhrmann burned up the course, carding half a dozen birdies and showing the vintage form that has cemented him a place as one of the Sunshine Tour’s most consistent performers.
The cut was set at 70 and ties following the second round
Compatriot James Kingston, who has had a solid season on the Asian Tour this year, finished the second round on one-over-par 145 after carding even-par 72 to sit tied for 68th.
The ginger cat, Chris Williams carded a second round 72 to finish the second round in a tie for 78th and Zimbabwe’s Marc Cayeux fired a heart breaking 77 to miss the cut, suffering the indignity of slipping from a share of 11th to also miss the cut.
Meanwhile, Michael Kirk in his first appearance on the European Tour after earning his card at Q-School, put in a commendable effort to fire one-under-par 71. But it wasn’t enough to repair the damage of his first round 76 and the Johannesburg professional will be packing his bags after finishing with a share of 90th.
Craig Kamps woes continued with a second round 75 for an aggregate 10-over-par 154 and a share of 126th.
Thailand’s Plaphol Chawalit claimed the outright lead, firing a 67 for a total of 12-under-par 132.
