PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: Prize money increase for next year's Volvo China Open
/noticias.info/ The Volvo China Open was given a massive boost ahead of the final round at Shenzhen Golf Club with the announcement that the prize fund for next year’s event - at the Beijing Hong Hua International Golf Club from April 13-16, 2006 - will be raised by $500,000 to $1.8 million, seeing a cheque for $285,000 going to the winner.
Prize money for the Volvo China Open has risen by a remarkable 450 per cent over the past three years – this latest increase represents 38 per cent - and is confirmation of Volvo’s ambitious plans for Chinese golf in general and the Open Golf Championship of the world’s largest nation in particular.
“Volvo is honoured to have been the first commercial partner of the China Golf Association, and the substantial uplift in prize money is further evidence of our commitment to the game of golf in China”, said Mel Pyatt, President & CEO of Volvo Event Management, adding,
“The increase from US$1.3million to US$1.8million puts in place several more building blocks in our own Great Wall of China.”
Stephen Dodd, recent World Cup winner and the defending champion in Shenzhen, said: “This huge increase in prize money is great news for players on the Asian and The European Tour, and is certain to further enhance the quality of the field, confirming Volvo as the keynote sponsor of golf on both continents.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
