Arsenal schools on song at Wembley

/noticias.info/ For Arsenal - a club famed for it’s lush, carpet-like playing surface - the phrase ‘pitch perfect’ took on a very different meaning at Wembley Conference Centre last Friday evening.

For it referred to the name of a project which began in February of this year, involving the North London club and neighbours Chelsea, in producing an anthem to reflect football in 2005.

The musical initiative, in association with the two London clubs, BBC Singers, BBC Orchestra, the Goethe institute, Islington CEA and Hammersmith and Fulham councils, came to a stunning finale as it was preformed live for Children in Need night on BBC London.

Children from nine Islington secondary schools and nine primary schools from the Chelsea and Fulham area came together to perform the 45-minute piece of music they had also helped to produce.

Former Gunners Paul Davis and John Hollins received a great reception as they appeared on stage carrying the Premiership and FA Cup trophies.

“Pitch Perfect was an epic, collaborative project - and the most exciting creative challenge I've been involved in,” said project manager Garth McArthur.

“It has been developed in partnership with so many amazing groups - both internally within the BBC - and externally with Arsenal and Chelsea FC, the Goethe Institute London and Magnum Photos - this really has been an amazing opportunity for every one of the 1000 young people taking part in the concert at Wembley.”

The aim was to find out what actually makes football 'the beautiful game' and translate this into music.

Arsenal in the Community worked closely with local schools to coordinate sessions to help create this musical extravaganza.

BBC Sport's presenter Ray Stubbs hosted the event which raised money for 'Children in Need.'
