INTER: MANCINI: "THOSE BEHIND US CAN'T SLIP UP"
/noticias.info/ APPIANO GENTILE - Part one of Roberto Mancini's pre-Messina v Inter news conference:
Mancini, just how important is tomorrow's match in terms of continuing your positive results?
"We should talk about a series of results after it has happened, but in the championship we have just won one match after two draws. Unfortunately the Champions League victory doesn't count for the championship. Tomorrow we must think about Messina and try to win, then we will see what happens later on. It's useless now to think about things that are out of place."
Inter are doing much better in second halves this year. Compared to last season, do you feel you are steadier in the final phases of matches?
"I feel steadier after matches. If we will tomorrow I will feel more secure. The team is definitely better than last year, but it will be a difficult match tomorrow and those chasing us cannot afford to play calmly and make a half slip-up. So we have to be very focused and do our best to win three points in Messina."
In any case, your second halves are better than last season. Last year, for example, teams came back eight times in the last fifteen-minute periods of matches...
"It's dangerous to talk about these things before a match. We will have to be careful in the last 10-15 minutes... Statistics can have their importance, but we mustn't think about this. We know we are a great team, we must go to Messina to play our game and try to win with tranquillity and without suffering. There are no alternatives, we must win all three points."
Should you perhaps think back to last season's match in Messina to avoid making certain mistakes?
"It would be difficult to see that kind of match again. I don't even remember how many scoring chances we created. I don't even know how Messina managed to win that game, but this is football. Sometimes you create a lot but you don't score. We let in a goal from a counter-attack in the ninetieth minute when we were attacking to try and win. And I remember that in the first half-hour we had eight or nine incredible chances. It all depends on us in these situations. We have to score from our chances."
