UNITED: British clubs stage tributes to Best
Football Grounds Fall Silent For George Best
/noticias.info/ United and West Ham will follow other British football teams in staging a tribute to George Best, when they meet at Upton Park on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday's league matches in England and Scotland were all preceded by either the traditional tribute - a minute's silence - or sixty seconds of applause.
Celtic opted for the latter, as did Wolves - whom George supported as a boy - and Portsmouth, whose chairman Milan Mandaric was a good friend of the United legend.
A spokesperson for Celtic said: "George Best was universally recognised as a player with a unique footballing talent and we felt it appropriate to hold a minute's applause."
The United players will all wear black armbands at Upton Park and again at Old Trafford on Wednesday night when they face West Brom in the Carling Cup. The Baggies will be appropriate opposition for the first home game after George's death - he made his debut against them in September 1963.
