FIBA: SCG - Buducnost thrash OKK Beograd
/noticias.info/ BELGRADE (Nasa Liga) - Nasa Liga leaders Buducnost bounced back to winning ways with a crushing win over OKK Beograd this weekend.
Buducnost slumped to a 78-76 defeat against Montenegrin rivals Mornar last week but they were back on top form to thrash the former Yugoslav champions 104-83.
They led 38-15 at the end of the first quarter, and never looked in trouble after as they coasted to a comfortable win.
Nenad Mijatovic was top scorer for the hosts, but the game's best haul belonged to Beograd's Goran Radonjic, who scored 30 points, including eight three pointers from 11 attempts.
Buducnost's coach Dejan Radonjic said: "I was afraid of this game as Marko Pekovic was sidelined, and two more players didn't have full training during the week.
"Still, our aggressive defence allowed us to score plenty of easy points, which raised self-confidence in our young players.
"It was important for us to win this game after our shock defeat in the previous round."
Masinac kept up the pressure on the leaders by beating Atlas 94-89, with Marko Dimitrijevic scoring 23 points and Mitar Trivunovic adding 22 points.
Borac, who had been level on points with Masinac, slipped away from the pace after losing 98-87 to local rivals Sloga.
Sasa Mijajlovic starred for the hosts, scoring 24 points and collecting six rebounds. His side took an early 23-12 lead, but Borac's main weapon, Dragan Labovic, scored 10 of his 19 points in the first half to get his side right back in the game.
However, young Uros Duvnjak's performance - he finished with 17 points, five assists and four rebounds - helped guide Sloga to their win, which keeps alive their hopes of claiming one of the places in the Superleague.
Sloga centre Slobodan Bozovic - who scored nine points - is enjoying his basketball after returning from champions Partizan, where he missed the whole of last season due to injury.
He said: "I'm glad to be back in my town, and to play in front of these great supporters.
"There's no doubt we have the strength to qualify for elite part of the Serbo-Montenegrin championship, but we will have to work hard to achieve it."
Mornar have joined Borac with a 5-3 record this season after beating fifth-placed Zdravlje 97-92, with Americans Doug Wrenn (29 points, seven rebounds) and Julius Barnes (22 points, nine rebounds) leading the way.
Elsewhere, Avala Ada were grateful to 18-year-old Nikola Dragovic's 34 points as they beat bottom side Primorka 87-84, while Ergonom made 10 three. notas_de_prensa_archivo
