SOUTHERN AFRICA TOUR: Priceless victory for Price

/noticias.info/ Nick Price's team won the inaugural Bard Capital Challenge on Sunday when amateur partner Ralph Miller holed a 12-foot putt on the third hole of a playoff with Mark Calcavecchia and his two-man amateur team.

Price earned $150,000 and amateurs Miller and Mark Andrus won prizes and a $150,000 donation to their chapter of the American Cancer Society. The players battled wind and sub 50-degree temperatures at the Tournament Players Club at the Canyons.

"How about my partner, Ralphie?" Price said. "I couldn't even hold my clubs in the cold."

Price, Calcavecchia and Rory Sabbatini's teams each shot 62s.

Sabbatini's group was eliminated on the first playoff hole

"My hands were freezing and I was shaking, but it wasn't from nerves," said Miller, a 12-handicap from Henderson, Nev. "You couldn't have written a script any better. It was perfect. Nick is a super person he was made this day worth a million bucks."

The tournament took the low net score of the amateur team along with the gross score of the professional playing partner.

Qualifying took place Thursday to Saturday, with 67 amateur teams started the event at The Revere in Henderson and eight advancing to the Sunday's finale.

The teams led by PGA Tour players Zach Johnson and Scott Verplank fired 63s, followed by Fred Funk (65), Bo Van Pelt (66) and Ryan Moore (69). Moore replaced John Daly, who pulled out of the event because of a broken hand. notas_de_prensa_archivo
