EVERTON: MOYES: DUNC COULD QUIT
/noticias.info/ By: Scott McLeod
David Moyes has revealed Duncan Ferguson could be weeks away from quitting Everton because of the physical demands of playing in the Premiership.
The Big Scot, who turns 34 in 10 days, signed a new one year contract in the summer.
But the striker has confided to Moyes that his body is struggling to cope with the demands of regular top-flight football after a career dogged by injury problems.
Ferguson has been a virtual ever-present in the Blues' squad this term. But the majority of his appearances have been from the substitute's bench.
Moyes said: "Duncan is struggling. He's considering calling it a day as his body is finding it hard.
"He's going to look at his future in January as he is possibly not feeling at his best.
"He's feeling as if he is ready to make a decision as over the last month or so he's been struggling and has been a little down.
"Duncan approached me and it's been very tough on him. His body and his legs are very sore and he's not feeling as if he is up for it. Generally, that's the way he feels.
"I spoke to him and he maybe feels he can't still perform at this level. You've got to give him credit for being open and honest about it.
"Duncan finds it hard not being able to make the kind of impact that he would like in matches and that's what is hurting him.
"I don't think that it has anything to do with him not playing all the time. He did well for us last season, often coming on for us as a substitute and scoring crucial goals.
"It was those displays that earned him a new contract until the end of this season."
Ferguson's dramatic impact on games last term was, in the main, from the substitute's bench.
Of his 37 appearances only eight were from the start of matches. One of those outings was the Goodison clash with Manchester United in April in which he netted the winner.
That led to a run of four starts from the last six matches of the campaign and led to his new contract.
He has continued to play a prominent role for the Blues this term, starting seven matches and appearing as a sub in 12 ahead of Saturday's Premiership clash with Bolton. notas_de_prensa_archivo
