SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS STARTS CODE-SHARE WITH UNITED AIRLINES
/noticias.info/ South African Airways (SAA) today introduced a code-share agreement with United Airlines, its Star Alliance partner to the Americas.
Customers of both airlines can now purchase tickets and earn miles to even more destinations in Africa and Europe when booking travel on code-share flights between SAA and United.
SAA is the only carrier to provide a direct service from North America to South Africa, with daily departures from New York (JFK) and Atlanta and four flights weekly from Washington Dulles that offer convenient connections to the airline’s unsurpassed Africa network.
“South African Airways is proud to partner with United Airlines in this code-share agreement as it is sure to expand our services and continue to provide our passengers with the highest standards of comfort and convenience,” said Nomfanelo Magwentshu, SAA General Manager Business Development.
"We're thrilled to include South African Airways as a Star Alliance member," said Graham Atkinson, United's senior vice president-Worldwide Sales and Alliances. "This new agreement will give our customers more travel choices to Africa and Europe, and the opportunity to accumulate miles to these exciting destinations."
South African Airways and United frequent fliers benefit from the code-share agreement by earning miles on each carrier's flights, with award redemption beginning April 2, 2006. Mileage Plus® members began accruing miles with South African Airways in November 2005.
South African Airways and United and have placed each other's flight number on their transatlantic flights offering customers a variety of travel options between the United States and Africa and Europe. United's flight number will appear on South African Airways flights between Washington-Dulles and Johannesburg giving passengers the opportunity to connect on United flights to Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.
In addition, United Mileage Plus members earn Elite Qualifying Miles, which are miles that count toward elite status, when traveling on other Star Alliance members, and may redeem their miles for award travel to nearly 800 destinations worldwide.
