MLB: Royals agree to ticket user fee
Announcement comes on the heels of the Royals' new Preferential Ticket Discount Plan for Jackson County residents
/noticias.info/ KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Royals, as well as the Chiefs, will have a ticket user fee that ensures that all fans purchasing tickets will make a contribution to the newly renovated stadiums being proposed before the Jackson County voters April 4.
The Royals announced Sunday that they will commit to a 30 cent-per-ticket user fee, in addition to the baseball team's plan to give out 267,000 ticket discount coupons (one to each Jackson County household). The Royals, who have the lowest ticket prices in Major League Baseball, had previously withheld support of a user fee. However the Royals agreed to the fee after talking with Jackson County Legislator Fred Arbanas, a strong proponent of an additional fee charged to those who attend the games. The Chiefs announced last week that they will charge a $1 user fee on each ticket as long as the Royals would also commit to a fee.
"Many people who come to the games and use the facilities live outside of Jackson County," Arbanas said. "This has been a major point among the voters. The difference in the fees of each team relates to the number of games and the average price of a Chiefs' ticket vs. that of the Royals. Now I can go out and talk very positively to residents about the importance of supporting these renovations that will make these Jackson County stadiums world class once again."
Royals Senior Vice President of Business Operations Mark Gorris said providing affordable entertainment for Royals fans remains a key goal of the Glass family and this user fee allows the team to still have one of the lowest average ticket prices in all of the four professional sports leagues.
"The Jackson County preferential program of discounted tickets to all households, plus the 30-cent user fee for all fans, are two key compromises in moving the Truman Complex major transformation proposal forward," Gorris said. notas_de_prensa_archivo
