NFL: EAGLES: PLAYER PROFILE: TREY DARILEK
/noticias.info/ By BOB KENT
PhiladelphiaEagles.com profiles the 2005 Eagles, player by player, as we prepare for the 2006 season. Current Profile: G/C Trey Darilek.
Andy Reid likes his guards to have the ability to play tackle or center. Trey Darilek fits that mold.
At 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Darilek has the size to play strong inside. He has versatility to help at tackle, both guard spots, and even center.
Darilek saw some important snaps late in the 2005 regular season. As the Eagles rested some of their starting offensive linemen, Darilek played in games against St. Louis and Cincinnati and developed a good feel for what parts of his game he needed to improve.
A fourth-round pick from the University of Texas-El Paso in 2004, Darilek has played in 18 games since then, including 15 games this season, largely on special teams.
Darilek was a fixture at the NovaCare Complex during the last offseason, working with offensive line coach Juan Castillo to improve his strength and technique and understanding of the system.
Darilek seemed the logical choice to fill in at center when Hank Fraley went down. But the team tapped Jamaal Jackson as the starter. Still, Darilek is one of those combination offensive lineman that is invaluable in today's NFL.

SPADARO ANALYSIS
"I thought we would see more of Darilek in 2005, given the injuries up front. He made an impressive transition to center and has a working knowledge of the position, but I'm not sure where his best position will be. Is Darilek a guard or a tackle? Can he be a starting-caliber player or is he best suited as a backup?
"I don't know. I haven't seen enough from the young man. You'd think that his third season would be a telling year, so that is where Darilek is at right now. He needs to have a good off-season, improve every day and then make a run at some playing time. Where he'll make that run, I'm just not certain."
