SCOTLAND YARD: Wanted - more Police Community Support Officers
/noticias.info/ On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February 2006 the Metropolitan Police Service will be hosting two open days to recruit more Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). The event is being held at the Hotel Ibis, 47 Lillie Road near Earl's Court Tube from 9.30am - 5pm.
PCSOs and other members of police staff will be on hand to answer any questions potential applicants may have. The event is part of a wider recruitment drive as it is anticipated that the Met will recruit a large number of PCSOs over the next year.
PCSOs are an essential part of the Met family. They provide reassurance, gather intelligence and generally protect the community in a non-confrontational role. In London PCSOs can work in one of four different areas including working in a Safer Neighbourhoods Team or a transport role.
Mags Johnson has worked as a PCSO in Morden for over a year, she said:
"It's an excellent job if you enjoy working with people. You need to be a good problem solver. Once people know you're there to help them, they keep coming back to you with local issues or problems that come up.
"My favourite part of the job is giving talks to the local community, which I frequently get asked to do. I have done talks with the elderly, the hard of hearing, schools and Brownies and Girl Guides groups."
Chief Superintendent Steve Bloomfield, Head of the Safer Neighbourhoods Programme, said:
"PCSOs contribute to policing in London by providing a visible and reassuring presence. They also play a vital role in Safer Neighbourhoods Teams where they work alongside Police Officers. The teams work with the local community to identify and tackle local problems such as anti-social behaviour or graffiti."
Working for the Met, London's largest single employer has numerous benefits. PCSOs receive four weeks of classroom tuition with further on the job training, up to £24k and flexible working.
Anyone wishing to attend can book a place by calling 0845 223 5661 or for more information on how to become a PCSO go to www.metpolicecareers.co.uk . notas_de_prensa_archivo
