PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: Bendinat London Seniors Masters Returns to The London Golf Club
/noticias.info/ The European Seniors Tour is delighted to announce that the Bendinat London Seniors Masters will return to the five-star surroundings of The London Golf Club in Kent from June 29-July 1, 2006.
The 2006 Bendinat London Seniors Masters, which will be played over 54 holes on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Heritage Course, will carry a prize fund of £150,000 with Sam Torrance the defending champion.
“This is a fantastic golf course, as good as we play on the European Seniors Tour. The greens are perfection: fast, true and not unfair,” said Torrance, who broke the course record with an eight under par 64 in the first round of the 2005 tournament.
Torrance followed that stunning round with scores of 67 and 70 to capture the title by three strokes from David J Russell of England. It was the Scot’s third victory of the season and played a massive role in his successful bid to win the European Seniors Tour Order of Merit for the first time.
“We are enormously grateful to The Bendinat Group, The London Golf Club and the sponsors for their generous support which has enabled the event to grow into one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the European Seniors Tour schedule,” said Andy Lee, Managing Director of Sportingclass, which is promoting the event in tandem with Sports Masters International.
Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Seniors Tour, said: “Last year’s Bendinat London Seniors Masters was a great success and our players were united in their praise for the wonderful conditioning of the Heritage Course.
“I know they will be delighted that the tournament is returning to the same course and this announcement means the 2006 European Seniors Tour now comprises 17 events offering in excess of £4 million in prize money.”
The London Golf Club occupies an enviable position in the Kent countryside while being just 12 miles from Canary Wharf and the City of London. This proximity to the capital’s financial district has increased the demand for corporate hospitality and the event will feature two days of pro-ams, on Tuesday July 27 and Wednesday July 28.
Scott Evans, General Manager of The London Golf Club, said: “The London Golf Club is the ideal venue to host such an event. The magnificent Jack Nicklaus designed Heritage Course provided a great test for the players in 2005 and we are very much looking forward to once again welcoming the professionals of the European Seniors Tour.”
This is the second year that The Bendinat Group, the premier Mallorcan real estate development company, has sponsored the event. The Bendinat Group is a keen supporter of golf both in Mallorca at its own exclusive club, the Real Golf de Bendinat and in England through The London Golf Club, which the Group acquired in 2003. notas_de_prensa_archivo
