FORMULA 1: Majority of teams Barcelona bound

/noticias.info/ The Formula One testing action switches to Spain this week and Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. The session marks the teams’ final chance to carry out on-track preparations ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola on April 23.

That race will be Ferrari’s first ‘home’ event of the year and the former champions will be fielding test drivers Luca Badoer and Marc Gene in Spain from Tuesday. They will be joined on the opening day of the session by the Ferrari-powered Red Bull team, who will have race drivers David Coulthard and Christian Klien at the wheel, plus Toro Rosso and Williams.

Virtually all the other teams will begin their three-day Barcelona programmes on Wednesday. Championship leaders Renault will be running Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella throughout, while closest rivals McLaren will use Pedro de la Rosa and Kimi Raikkonen for one day, before de la Rosa hands over to Juan Pablo Montoya for the remainder of the test.

Ricardo Zonta and Olivier Panis will begin Toyota’s programme on Wednesday, with Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli taking over for Thursday and Friday. Japanese rivals Honda will also be on track, as will BMW Sauber.
