MLB: Twins announce April 11 home opener plans

Festivities get underway with Breakfast on the Plaza; Ceremonial first pitches to be thrown by children of Kirby Puckett

WHAT: Home Opener activities get underway at 6:00 a.m. when the Twins partner with WCCO Radio, the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission and Centerplate, in presenting the 11th annual "Breakfast on the Plaza." Fans are invited to drive through the Metrodome Plaza on Kirby Puckett Place between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to receive complimentary coffee, orange juice, Land O' Lakes milk, Hormel hot dogs and Star Tribune newspapers. Free tickets for the opening night game will be given away randomly.

WHEN: TUESDAY - April 11 - 6:00-9:00 a.m.

WHERE: Kirby Puckett Place (Chicago Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Streets)


Opening Day Rally at the IDS Crystal Court (Downtown Minneapolis)

WHAT: Former Twin great and Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew will be joined by Twins manager Ron Gardenhire and Twins players Michael Cuddyer, Lew Ford and Jesse Crain at the Home Opener Rally at the IDS Crystal Court. Twins broadcaster John Gordon will emcee the event, and Twins prizes and tickets will be given away.

WHEN: TUESDAY - April 11 - 12:00-12:30 p.m.

WHERE: IDS Crystal Court (80 South Eighth Street)


Tribute to Kirby Puckett Highlights Pre-Game Plans

WHAT: The pre-game ceremony will include a tribute to Kirby Puckett, including the unveiling of a "34" patch that will be worn on all Twins uniforms throughout the 2006 season. A large "34" also will be painted in center field and remain on the Metrodome's playing surface throughout the Twins first homestand. The children of Puckett, Catherine and Kirby, Jr., will throw ceremonial first pitches before the game. Puckett, a Twins legend and member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, passed away March 6, 2006, from complications associated with a stroke.

Popular vocalists, the Sounds of Blackness, will perform the National Anthem. Other pre-game elements include a tribute to Upper Midwest soldiers as well as announcing the traditional Opening Day lineups.

Fans attending the Home Opener will receive a 2006 Twins magnetic schedule, compliments of Target. In addition, the first 15,000 fans through the gates will receive a complimentary 29 WFTC baseball cap. The Metrodome Plaza will open at 4:00 p.m., with food, beverages and interactive games. Popular local artist Mick Sterling will perform a free concert on the Plaza beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. There also will be a fireworks display on the Plaza (weather permitting) following the game.

Brad Radke To Make Home Opener Start for Twins

WHAT: Righthanded pitcher Brad Radke will start for the Twins versus the Oakland Athletics.

WHEN: Tuesday - April 11 - 7:10 p.m.

WHERE: Metrodome
