MLB: PHILLIES: Colleges to compete for championship titles

Features teams that have never been in the title game...and "Rams vs. Rams"

/noticias.info/ On Tuesday, April 11, local colleges will compete for the Bill Giles Invitational and Liberty Bell Classic championship titles at Citizens Bank Park. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the First Base Gate Ticket window. Gates open at 3:15 p.m. Parking is free in Lot P, located on Darien Street.

West Chester Golden Rams vs. Philadelphia University Rams, 4 p.m.
West Chester University will try for a fourpeat as they take on Philadelphia University in the Bill Giles Invitational Championship at 4 p.m. Philadelphia University defeated Wilmington College, 7-4, and West Chester handily defeated the University of the Sciences, 8-1, to advance.

The Bill Giles Invitational was introduced in 2001 and is a college Division II baseball tournament. Taking part in the tournament are West Chester University, University of the Sciences, Philadelphia University and Wilmington College.

Lafayette Leopards vs. LaSalle Explorers, 8 p.m.
The Lafayette Leopards and the LaSalle Explorers will play for the Liberty Bell Classic title at 8:00 p.m. It is the first time the two teams have advanced to the championship in the tournament's 15-year history.

To reach the championship game, Lafayette knocked out the defending champion Villanova Wildcats in a 12-10 slugfest while on the other side of the bracket LaSalle disposed of the University of Delaware Blue Hens, 7-2.

The Liberty Bell Classic was conceived in 1992 as a way for local Division I colleges to compete against each other in a tournament as well as an opportunity for the schools to play on the big league field of Veterans Stadium.
