MLB: Cubs Care grants more than $1 million
/noticias.info/ Cubs Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Cubs and a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, today announced its distribution of $1,184,500 in grants to non-profit organizations throughout the Chicagoland area. Since 1991, the fund has given more than $10 million to Chicago area charities.
"The Chicago Cubs are proud to support Cubs Care, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation," said Rebecca Polihronis, manager of community relations for the Chicago Cubs. "The team's efforts together with all those who donated to Cubs Care, attended events and provided corporate sponsorships made more than $1 million in grants possible. This support is making a positive impact on the children and less fortunate of Chicago."
The 2006 grants include $250,000 to the Chicago Park District for the renovation of the baseball fields at Hamlin Park. The fields will be named Cubs Care Legends Fields in honor of Cubs greats Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ryne Sandberg and Ron Santo. Hamlin Park is also home to the Cubs Care Rookie League and the Inner City Little League. Cubs Care is also providing funding for restoration and improvements to historic Thillens Stadium.
